Derbyshire is a fantastic destination by all measures. Scenic, central, and arguably the UK's capital for four-legged adventures. With hundreds of miles of public footpaths criss-crossing the Peak District and a culture warmly welcoming "muddy boots and paws" across it's pubs and villages, it's an unmissable trip for dog lovers.
Finding attractions where everyone can join in the fun can be a challenge, so we've explored some of the best spots offering that mix freedom accessibility for you, your kids, and your dog.The Heights of Abraham
The Heights of Abraham is a hilltop estate welcoming visitors since 1787, and they are exceptionally dog-friendly. For a change of scenery dogs are welcome to ride in the alpine-style cable cars. Once at the summit, they can explore the 60-acre hilltop estate on a lead, taking in the spectacular panoramic views. While dogs cannot enter the show caverns for safety reasons, the attraction has solved the "who holds the dog?" dilemma perfectly. The Waggy Tails Way is a specially designed 25-30 minute walking trail over Masson Hill. It allows one person to enjoy a scenic hike with the dog, arriving at the cavern exit just as the rest of the family finishes their underground tour, so everyone h something to do! Tip for travelling: If you arrive by bus or train (Matlock Bath station is just a short walk away), you can claim a £5 discount on your admission ticket for a cheaper (and greener!) day out.Chatsworth House
Often called the 'Palace of the Peak', Chatsworth House is one of the few major stately homes actively courting canines, rather than just tolerating them! Dogs are welcome to explore the entire 105-acre garden and the vast 1,000-acre parkland (on leads), variety from gentle strolls to vigorous hikes to suit all kinds of visitor. You'll also find doggy drinking stations dotted around and specific dog-friendly seating in the Carriage House Café, so you can enjoy lunch together. The gift shops even stock a range of dog treats and accessories if you want to spoil them.
