A Foodie's Guide to Dorset in 2026

Dorset is famous for its Jurassic Coast, but there are plenty of treasures beyond the cliffs! From the rolling pastures of the Blackmore Vale (affectionately called the "Vale of Little Dairies" by Thomas Hardy) to the fishing boats bobbing in Weymouth Harbour, the county is a genuine heavyweight in the UK’s culinary scene. Whether you;re seeking fine dining or fresh fuel post-hike, Dorset’s food calendar is packed with flavour. If you're planning your UK staycation around food you're in luck! Dorset hosts some of the country's most vibrant food festivals. Here are the key dates you need to know for 2026.

Christchurch Food Festival | 23rd - 25th May 2026

Kick off the summer season on the chaotic and colourful Christchurch Quay. This is one of the premier events on the South Coast, transforming the riverside into a bustling market of artisan producers and street food stalls. It’s perfect for families, with plenty of open space for picnics and live entertainment. File:Christchurch Dorset 08.jpg R J Higginson, CC BY-SA 3.0, via Wikimedia Commons

Upton House Food & Music Festival | 12th - 14th June 2026

Set in the beautiful grounds of Upton Country Park in Poole, this festival is where "foodie" meets "party." Expect top UK tribute acts, a dedicated kids’ stage, and a vast array of global street food. It’s a brilliant day out if you want to combine a picnic vibe with live music.

Dorset Seafood Festival | 4th - 5th July 2026

Seafood fans were left disappointed in 2025, as the festival went on hiatus due to essential sea wall repairs. Luckily 2026 is looking a little better! Dorset Seafood Festival is returning on 4th & 5th July 2026! Returning to Weymouth Harbour and will be free to attend. It’s never too early to book your accommodation for what promises to be a massive celebration. In the meantime, you don’t need a festival to enjoy world-class seafood here!
  • Weymouth Harbour: Head to Custom House Quay any morning to buy fresh crab and lobster directly from the fishing boats.
  • West Bay: Visit the kiosks at the harbour (famous from the TV show Broadchurch) for fresh scallops and fish and chips eaten on the sea wall.
  • Lyme Regis: Book a table at one of the oyster bars overlooking the Cobb for a true taste of the coast.

Sturminster Newton Cheese Festival | TBC - September 2026

If you only visit one food event this year, make it this one. Sturminster Newton is the spiritual home of Dorset dairy, and this festival is a giant celebration of all things cheesy. Held in the heart of the Blackmore Vale, it attracts thousands of visitors who come to sample over 80 different cheeses, including the legendary Dorset Blue Vinny. It’s the perfect anchor for a September staycation, when the weather is often mild, and the summer crowds have thinned. 2026 dates are still pending, but should be announced soon on the official site.

Year-Round Delights: What to Buy & Where

You don’t need to wait for a festival to fill your hamper. Dorset’s farm shops are open year-round and are vital to our local economy.
  • Dorset Apple Cake: Every bakery claims to have the best recipe, but the secret is in the apples (plenty of them!) and a hit of cinnamon. Try it warm with clotted cream at Washingpool Farm Shop near Bridport.
  • Dorset Blue Vinny: This crumbly, creamy blue cheese was once made in every farmhouse kitchen. Today it’s produced exclusively by Woodbridge Farm. Pair it with a "Dorset Knob" biscuit for the ultimate local snack.
  • Local Tipples: From Piddle Brewery ales to Black Cow Vodka (made from milk!), the local drinks scene is thriving.
