Paws for Adventure: A Guide to Norfolk's Best Dog-Friendly Days Out

Norfolk isn't just dog-friendly; it's a paradise for pets. With its vast skies, endless coastline, and sprawling countryside, the entire county feels like one giant adventure playground for you and your four-legged friend. Forget the stress of finding the odd pub that will let your dog in; Norfolk offers a complete "pet-friendly ecosystem," where a windswept walk flows seamlessly into a cosy pub lunch and a relaxing afternoon. Planning a rural getaway where the whole pack is welcome? Here are three of our absolute favourite attractions that promise a brilliant day out for both humans and hounds.

1. A Royal Walkies at Sandringham Estate

There’s a certain thrill to walking in the footsteps of royalty, and at Sandringham, the Royal Family's much-loved country retreat, your dog is welcomed with open arms. The main attraction here is the 600 acres of Royal Parkland, which is free to access and open daily. Why your dog will love it: Two long, way-marked trails offer a fantastic tour through beautiful woodlands and open parkland, with countless other paths to explore. It’s the perfect place for a safe, off-lead run around. Afterwards, you can grab a coffee and a slice of cake from the Terrace Takeaway Café and relax with your pup at the outdoor seating in the Visitor Courtyard. Good to know: While dogs aren't allowed in the main House or formal Gardens, the sheer scale of the parkland makes for a full and satisfying day out. Parking charges apply. 2. Grand Estates and Golden Sands at Holkham

For a day that combines culture, countryside, and coast, nothing beats Holkham. This spectacular destination offers the best of all worlds: a majestic stately home, a sprawling deer park, and arguably the most breathtaking beach in Britain. Why your dog will love it: Start with a sophisticated on-lead walk through the magnificent parkland designed by Capability Brown, keeping an eye out for the resident herd of Fallow Deer. Then, head to Holkham Beach, a vast, unspoilt expanse of golden sand backed by shady pine woods. At low tide, the sheer space is astonishing, giving your dog the freedom to run, splash, and play to their heart's content. Good to know: Dogs are welcome throughout the park (on leads) and on most of the beach year-round, though there are some signposted restrictions during bird nesting season. 3. Take to the Water in the Broads National Park

The Broads National Park offers the ultimate sense of freedom. This unique, man-made landscape of tranquil rivers and shallow lakes is Britain's largest protected wetland, and exploring it by boat is an unforgettable experience you can share with your pet. Why your dog will love it: The quintessential Broads adventure is hiring a day boat, and dozens of hire companies warmly welcome dogs on board. Imagine your pup sitting proudly on the bow, nose twitching in the breeze as you glide silently past windmills and reedbeds. If you prefer to stay on dry land, the region is crisscrossed with over 300km of riverside footpaths, and the waterways are famously dotted with charming, dog-friendly pubs for the perfect pit-stop. Good to know: Wroxham and Potter Heigham are the main hubs for boat hire, and booking in advance is essential during peak season. A trip on the water is the best way to soak in the unique, peaceful atmosphere of this incredible landscape. Ready to plan your own paw-some Norfolk adventure?
