Above Derwent
PANORAMIC views in the heart of the Lakes, Keswick
Check-in/out Saturday only. Westbury is ideally situated for peace and quiet, having no passing traffic and commands, for self- catering accommodation, possibly the best views and location in the Lake District. From the back of the house, Skiddaw dominates, along with the views over the fields to Keswick. From the front of the house, Grisedale Pike, Causey Pike, Cat Bells, Lords Seat and Lake Bassenthwaite take the eye. Derwentwater is to the left and can be seen from the front of the drive.
Westbury, which was built pre-war, is a spacious three-bed roomed semi,
which has full central heating, catering for up to 9 people.
There is ample parking space for three cars/small boat, also an adjoining garage.
The gardens at the front and back are lawned with flower borders; fully equipped with garden furniture (for those who want a lazy holiday and dare we mention sun tan!!).
At the back of the house the patio leads down into the lower part of the garden where a small lodge, wooden arbour and pond nestles.
There is ample parking space on the driveway for three cars / small boat.
Keys will be left in a secure key holder with a combination, which will be provided once deposit has been taken.
Portinscale boasts a local pub, “The Farmers Arms” which comes highly recommended as well as “The Derwentwater Hotel” and the newly opened “Village Tearoom,” serving up the best English breakfast money can buy.
Portinscale, as you will probably know, is a small village located 1 mile west of Keswick and is ideally situated at the head of Lake Derwentwater and Borrowdale. Its popularity stems from the fact that everything is at hand, namely walking and climbing in Borrowdale. Sailing and windsurfing under supervision on Derwentwater (marinas are a minutes walk away). There are horse riding stables on the road to Keswick and if you are feeling fit, mountain biking are available to hire from Keswick.
Many of our regular visitors start their holiday by locking their cars in the garage and planning their walks from Westbury. There is no better walk in the District for variety than that which takes you down to Nichol End Marina, through the woods and fields along the shore of Derwentwater to Brandleliow and thence to the ever-popular Cat Bells. Go half way up the fell and there is a grassy path that starts you on your way back home. The views over the lake are quite breathtaking and, given a nice day, unforgettable. Pop in the Swinside Inn for refreshments to complete a half days walk.
Westbury is available for booking on a weekly basis only (apart from low season weeks when you can book from 3 nights), with Saturday being the check-in / check-out day (apart from Xmas and New Year periods)
