Great location for Alton Towers. We only stayed one night but wished we stayed longer.
Positive: Very clean and comfortable. Kids loved the animals!
4.0/5
We enjoyed a comfortable stay at Charlie’s Cottage. The accommodation was conveniently located and is close by to many fun facilities and activities. We were met upon arrival by the host and walked through all the key information. We did have a couple of small issues, which were promptly resolved by the host. Communication and responsiveness throughout our stay was excellent.

Positive: Great location, really close to Alton Towers which was the main reason we booked it.

Great location for Alton towers. Nice pubs nearby. Everything needed for a short stay.

We really enjoyed our stay. Great, friendly communiation. It was clean and had everything we needed for a family of 5. The kitchen was well stocked of all the essential utensils and pots and pans needed. There was an undercounter fridge and separate freezer which was useful including the dishwasher. The oven worked very well (which we've not been so lucky with other places in the past). It is just like what is in the photos. The site itself was beautiful and the animals and play park including the football goals went down well with my son. We would definitely come back again. Thank you very much

Lovely stay with my family.
Positive: The location was amazing. My children loved the different animals; gunea pigs, sheep and the alpacas and that they were able to feed them. The play area was also great. Both the animals and play area were great in keeping the children entertained during our stay.

Maggie greeted us when we arrived to our cottage, she was very welcoming and explained things clearly.

The cottage was clean and tidy and the beds were were comfortable :)

Would definitely be returning.
Negative: We were happy with our stay.
4.0/5
Overall, we had a pleasant stay. The location was charming, and the campsite grounds were very well maintained, making it a lovely place to relax.

The cottage itself was quite dated, which wasn’t a major issue, but it could benefit from some updating. We also noticed a few squashed bugs on the walls, inside the door, and around the door frames that appeared not to have been cleaned before our arrival. A little more attention to cleaning would have made a much better first impression.

That said, the peaceful setting and well-kept grounds made for an enjoyable stay overall.

With regards to the price, you are paying for the location as opposed to the accommodation itself in my opinion.

This was the perfect spot for our stay near Alton catching up with old friends. The location was perfect. We were super close to Alton Towers, JCB headquarters, Denstone Farm Shop and the picturesque town of Ashbourne. Our two young kids loved having the animals around, and the extra outdoor space to play was ideal. The amenities were everything we needed. Will definitely stay here again!

We stayed in a beautiful location that was perfect for families with young children. We were visiting Alton Towers for two days, and the accommodation was ideally situated, less than 10 minutes away.

We received a very warm and friendly welcome on arrival, and the property was clean, comfortable, and well suited to a family stay. There are also some lovely local pubs nearby, which was an added bonus. We would happily stay again.

Lovely little cottage in a perfect position to get to Alton Towers. The site was in a beautiful location with a large field and play area for the kids. We stayed here instead of one of the Alton Towers hotels and we're so glad we did ☺️

I stayed here for my hen do with my friends and I had a great weekend ! The location is absolutely beautiful and close to some great days out. Everyone on the camp site was really quiet and respectful. The owners were really friendly and welcoming . I felt really safe in the lodge and comfortable. Everything was very clean usually I always take cleaning products away with me but I never felt I had to re clean anything here. I would love to come back again with my little boy.

We enjoyed our stay at Lower Micklin Farm.
A lovely quiet location very close and convenient for Alton Towers. We slept really well in the cottage.
The cottage was very clean and had everything you need for self catering. We loved the Alpacas and Oscar the dog.
Convenient parking right outside, outside seating and BBQ. Super views. Lots of birds and a wee playground.
The location is about a mile to walk to eat out a few minutes in the car but nothing very close on foot.
Driving distance about 50mins to Chatsworth, Bakewell, Dove valley and Hadon House, 25mins to Gladstone pottery.
The cottage is comfortable and clean however looks like an update is due.
Thank you Lower Micklin we would stay again if we are back at Alton Towers.

Great little find for Alton Towers for a family. Found after struggling to get one of the chain hotels nearby. Great for kids playing out the front and going to see the Alpacas and Oscar the dog. Place was spotless and ideal base for a family with beautiful surroundings.
The lady who came to show us in came straight out on arrival when I rang. She was very talkative and helpful showing us around the property and the amenities.
Would definitely come back.

We would surely book again.

I suspect the vast majority of people staying here are planning on attending Alton Towers and it's a perfect place to do so. my siblings and I had a lovely time staying here, it was warm, we were able to cook some lovely meals for one another, the shower was hot and the beds comfy after a long day on our feet. the WiFi was self-confessed to be poor but the 5G was fine. there is no cafetiere but when asked prior to arrival the team were quick to reply and meant I was not without some caffeine in the morning! beautiful views of the countryside. a short drive to Alton Towers and if you plan on getting taxis there are a list to choose from in the place, as well as food eateries. can't complain at all. super responsive, family ran, family friendly and would go back again.
5.0/5
Great location and lovely views! We came to visit Alton Towers for Scarefest, which is about 10 minutes away by car. A charming and clean house, where kids enjoy seeing and feeding the animals. Friendly and helpful owner!

Cosy and comfortable
Positive: We had a cosy 2 night stay. We had everything we needed. The hosts were responsive to our messages. The kids loved visiting the two alpacas in the field next door. Only 10 minutes away from Splash Landings. Had good food and service at The Bulls Head in Alton.
Negative: WiFi was fine for phones and iPads but couldn’t use the fire stick.
4.0/5
Kitchen could do with more utensils for a self catering stay. Pots especially. Oven/hob in need of upgrade.

Fantastic stay. The Cottage was spotless and very warm and accommodating. Playground was good for the kids and excellent views of the local surroundings. Very close by for Alton towers and will definitely be staying here again on our next trip.

The cottage is lovely, clean and well equipped in a peaceful setting with the bonus of animals within feet. The hosts were friendly and helpful. We were treating the teenagers to Alton Towers so location was perfect but would recommend regardless. It accommodated 2 adults, 2 teenagers and a child with plenty of space and we were able to cater for ourselves easily.
Definitely recommend this property and would return.

We had a great stay at Charlie’s Cottage! The farm is lovely with a lot of different animals and areas for the children to play. We’re a family of 5 (kids aged 5, 8 and 11), and the cottage was perfect size for us! It had everything we needed, and we especially liked the spacious upstairs sleeping area. Great communication with the host.

There are several beautiful villages close by, and Alton Towers Theme park and Waterpark only a few minutes drive away.

We highly recommend staying at Charlie’s Cottage!

Beautiful location, ideal for Alton Towers. Animals, Park and Ball field an immediate hit with the kids. Will definitely return.
Cottage ideal for quiet family time!

We stayed here while visiting Alton towers as an alternative to staying on site. The cottage is perfectly located for Alton towers, and nearby villages. It is a 5 min drive from Alton towers, and a 5-10 min drive from other villages with lovely walks and pubs. The cottage and site itself is beautiful, my boys and husband loved meeting Oscar and the alpacas, and having space for them to play football was a great touch. All of the other animals are lovely to have nearby as well. We also visited Thor’s cave on the way home which is a great morning out!

Lovely place with everything you need

This place was perfect for our 2-night break to Staffordshire (despite the rain!!)
The location is perfect for a trip to Alton Towers and has a lovely view of the dales.
The llamas and lambs are an added bonus!

I loved the alpacas and the beautiful surrounding nature. The place was easy to find and very oval to Peak District and Alton towers which was 7 mins away, but also close to shops like aldi if you need it. It was so pretty at night and even more stunning during the day near sunset when you can see the rolling hills. Very peaceful and an amazing stay!
